Trend watch - flying swallow

I have a feeling that Sienna Miller's swallow tattoo that was featured on the cover of ELLE had something to do with the swallow trend we are seeing everywhere.

From fabrics to fashion and jewellery, this little bird is big news.

Enjoy,
Margaux

Vintage movie posters

Vintage movie posters can become instant focal points in a room or a collection grouped together on a dead wall space.

Recently my movie guru boyfriend and I have been revisiting some old classic movies no one has ever heard of.

It really is the perfect way to end off a weekend - you, me and a good old school movie like "The incredible shrinking man". I would highly recommend this one.

Thanx honey for the inspiration ... xxx

From shoe organizer into vertical herb garden

Don't have enough space in your place to grow some herbs? Turn a shoe organizer into a vertical garden and as long as you have a balcony railing with sun exposure, you'll have more than enough room.

The design is simple. Hang a canvas shoe organizer, fill with potting soil and plant your favorite herbs in the pouches. With some strong sun and adequate water you'll have a thriving spread of herbs to flavor your favorite dishes. For more details on the design and implementation, check out the full tutorial here http://lifehacker.com/5311492/turn-a-shoe-organizer-into-a-vertical-herb-garden

Two-tiered container garden

This two-tiered container garden holds a selection of basic herbs. Trailers and fillers - chives rosemary and thyme - tumble over the edges of teh bottom pot (about 24 inches wide). Dwarf puple and sweet basils grow in the top pot (about 16 inches wide) with thyme filling in around the edges. To keep potted herbs healthy fertilize and water them regularly.

Decorate with books

I moved house recently and discovered that I could quit my day job and open up a library with all the books and magazines I have.

Therefore I thought it an excellent idea to research the topic on how to decorate with books.

Have a look at these very quirky and sophisticated tricks.

Lots of love,
Margaux

Chalk and cheese

I remember the first time I worked with blackboard paint ... I got so excited that I started painting everything I could get my hands on. Reviting stuff!

Recently my sister had her first baby and ofcourse I had to do my bit by making her a chalk board bunny. Two obsessions combined in one lovely piece of practical art!

Feast your eyes on some very clever things people have done with this medium.

Perfect Pantone

I am tickled pink about the Pantone color system and the way it's inspired everything from fashion, decor, art projects to a fabulous hotel of it's own.
So what is Pantone ... ?
The Pantone solid color system, with over 1100 unique, numbered colors, was originally devised to help printers and designers specify and control colors for print projects. This is the most widely used Pantone palette, with colors sometimes referred to as 'PMS' (for Pantone Matching System) or 'spot colors', and is used in the graphics, print, and publishing, industries.

Art projects
Basheer rainbow campus
Basheer graphic bookstore would like to promote Pantone color guide book to art college students and faculty, and to convince them that Pantone has the most color selection for their printing guidance so they gave the job to Bates 141 Jakarta.

Pantone diet and public art project
Tan, a Malaysian-born artist living in New York, is interested in using art to address social issues, and for this project, called “Nature Matching” (The Pantone Diet was my name… I just love anything Pantone so I thought it was catchy), he created a color-coding system to visually show people the colors they should be eating everyday. He put the Pantone squares together in murals that are being hung publicly in places with high volumes of walking traffic.

Taking the GAP
Gap and Pantone recently partnered up on a limited edition line of vibrantly colored tees in some of spring's hottest hues. "We wanted to create an explosion of color and bring some warmth and optimism to our customers," explains Patrick Robinson, executive vice president of design for Gap Adult and gapbody, about the rotating Gap and Pantone T-Shop which is currently located at the NYC flagship (5th Avenue at 54th Street) through Sunday, February 8th and features a full palette of Gap tees from the spring collection, including one in Mimosa (PANTONE 14-0848), a warm yellow that is Pantone's color of the year for 2009. "Mixing Pantone's vibrant colors with Gap's signature t-shirts gives everyone an opportunity to find the perfect tee they can mix and match for their own personal style."
